Nutrigenomics

"Know from whence you came. If you know whence you came, there are absolutely no limitations to where you can go.”
James Baldwin

Nutrigenomics is associated  with the idea of personalized nutrition based on your genotype.

It is the study of the effects of foods and food constituents on gene expression.

Here enters the Epigenome which consists of chemical tags (small molecules) that interact with the DNA. Often, these are methyl, acetyl or phosphate groups that are added or removed.

These chemical tags unwind or tighten the DNA so that they can boost or interfere with transcription, and therefore, will change gene expression.

It is custom to say that these groups can turn on and off genes.

Chemical tags can be influenced by many factors such as:

-       Nutrition,

-       Environment (i.e. pollution),

-       Medication

-       Stress

Genetic testing enables you to gather information about your genes.

However, genes are merely “predispositions” and not destiny.

Because of epigenetics, genes are not always expressed as they are coded.

One must always keep in mind that gene expression is influenced by epigenetics (lifestyle – nutrition, sleep, exercise, medication & stress) Therefore, genes are only predispositions and not destiny.

Genetic testing is a way to adapt your lifestyle in a unique and personal way in order to attain your best personal health.

Epigenetics controls gene expression without altering genes themselves
